Maj. Gen. (Res.) Yaakov Amidror

Former National Security Advisor & Director, National Security Council, Israel

M.G. Yaacov Amidror served as the National Security Advisor to the P.M of Israel and the Head of the National Security Council, for more than 2.5 years (April 2011- November 2013).

He served with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for 36 years (1966- 2002), at the beginning as a Parachuter and retiring as the Commander of the IDF Military Colleges. Most of his career he did in the Military Intelligence ended as the head of the Assessment Division with responsibility to the National Intelligence Assessment 

He has a master's degree in political science from the University of Haifa and various other degrees and certificates from IDF colleges.

 

As a civilian he was a member of several large Israeli companies' boards. Currently he is a director in Israel Corp. & Seach Medical Group, CEO of “Next Gen biomad“ an health diagnostic company and consulting a variety of energy, security, and cyber startups.

 

Since retiring from the armed forces, General Amidror has published 2 books, dealing with military and intelligence issues, as well as several monographs regarding the Israeli experience to fight terrorism, the changes in the Middle east since 2010, options of resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the logic of breaking by force Iran in Syria and Lebanon.

His articles are published in newspapers in Israel and around the globe.

 

After his retirement he took part in several governmental committees dealing with national security and strategy planning, among the rest, Amidror was a member of the Meridor Committee - trying to re-define the principles of National Security.

Head of the committee appointed by the Prime Minister - aiming to propose improvements in the Security Cabinet activities and procedures (2017).

 

M.G Amidror is now the Anne and Greg Rosshandler Senior Fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategic Studies, and a Distinguished Fellow of JINSA's Gemunder Center in Washington.

 

Born in 1948, married and has 5 children.
