The Syrian Quagmire
With a country torn apart by civil war and the emergence of terrorist elements such as the Islamic State, the current situation in Syria is highly complex. This turmoil has had extensive influence on the region, forcing the involvement of extra-regional actors, such as Russia, Turkey, Arab States and a coalition of Western actors. And still, the instability persists in Syria, leaving many questioning what the future of the country will look like.
This workshop will investigate the current complexities in Syria, investigating regional and non-regional influence on the situation. Panelists will discuss various countries' involvement in Syria and potential, foreseeable outcomes of the conflict.
