Maj. Gen. (Res.) Shlomo “Sami” Turgeman
Former Commander Southern Command, Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), Senior Fellow, ICT, IDC Herzliya, Israel
Maj. Gen. Sami Turgeman was born in Morocco in 1964 and
drafted into the IDF Armored Corps in 1982.
From 1988-1990 he served as an officer in the Sons of Light
Formation and the Tracks of Iron Brigade.
From 1992-1994 he was the commander of the Breachers
Battalion.
From 1994-1996 he was the Operations Officer of the Steel
Formation.
In 1996 he was appointed to be the Commander of the Armored
Corps Reserves Brigade and taught in the Company and Battalion
Command School.
From 1997-1999 he was the Head of the Training Deparmtent in
the GOC Army Headquarters, in addition to being the
Commander of the Armored Corps Reserves Brigade.
From 1999-2001 he was the Commander of the Reserves Brigade at the Ground Forces Warfare Center.
From 2001-2002 he was the Commander of the Sons of Light Formation.
From 2003-2005 he was the Commander of the Pillar of Fire Reserves Formation in the Northern Command, and in addition to that, from January 2004 he served as the Armored Corps Head Officer.
From 2005-2007 he was the Head of the Operations Brigade in the Operations Directorate.
From 2007-2009 he was the commander of the 36th Armored Division in the Northern Command.
From 2009-2013 he was the commander of the IDF Army Headquarters.
From 2013-2015 he was the commander of the IDF Southern Command.
Maj. Gen. Turgeman holds a Bachelors degree in Social Sciences from the Bar-Ilan University, and an Executive Master of Business Administration Degree from the Tel Aviv University.
Maj. Gen. Turgeman is married and a father of five.
