Mr. Marc Timmer
Head of Stadia & Security, Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)
Marc Timmer joined UEFA in 2002 as the organisation’s
first Head of Stadium and Security. His main
responsibility was to develop and implement UEFA’s
stadium and security policies and strategies and to
enhance pan European partnerships with relevant
institutions such as the EU and the Council of Europe.
For more than ten years, he oversaw the safety and
security of all UEFA competitions and UEFA EURO
tournaments. For UEFA EURO 2012, Timmer steered the
development and construction of the stadia in Poland
and Ukraine and implemented joint training programmes
for police commanders and stadium managers. He also
supervised safety and security operations during the
tournament.
Marc Timmer now leads the UEFA Stadium and Security
Strategy and Development programme. His main
responsibility is to oversee and support the integrated
approach to safety, security and service across UEFA’s 55 member associations. He also continues to have the lead role in enhancing UEFA’s pan European partnerships.
Before joining UEFA in 2002, Marc Timmer was Head of Stadia and Security at Royal Dutch Football Association. He moved to this position after working in the Dutch Ministries of Justice and Internal Affairs as a policy adviser. He holds degrees in several subject areas, including Public Administration, Social Science and Public Safety and Security Studies.
