Homegrown Terrorism in the West
Terrorism is a global phenomenon that leaves no corner of the earth unscathed. In the western world, we tend to filter terror events through the lens of international/global events. We tend to regard terrorists as enemies from abroad and lose focus on their ability to radicalize domestically. In recent years, there has been an uptick in homegrown terrorism in the western world.
With the recent rise of lone wolf attack, the phenomenon of homegrown terrorism will persist, especially with the continued evolution of technological tools that facilitate the process of radicalization. This workshop will discuss the causes of homegrown terrorism in the west and explore what can be done to mitigate this threat.
The session is organized in cooperation with Program on Extremism at The George Washington University
