The Honorable Gent Cakaj
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Albania
Gent Cakaj was born in Prishtina, on 6 July 1990. Gent Cakaj was
educated in Kosovo, Belgium and Hungary.
He obtained a Research Master of Philosophy with distinction from
the Centre for Metaphysics, Philosophy of Religion and Philosophy
of Culture from the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Leuven,
Belgium (2017).
Gent Cakaj holds four other degrees in the fields of philosophy, law
and political science. He holds a Master of Arts in Political Science
from the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary (2015)
and a Master of Philosophy from the Institute of Philosophy at the
University of Leuven, Belgium (2014). He holds a Bachelor Degree
in law from the Law Faculty at the AAB University in Prishtina (2016)
and a Bachelor Degree in Philosophy from the Faculty of Philosophy
at the University of Prishtina (2012).
Gent Cakaj is an expert in Political Analysis and Comparative Politics, in Modern Philosophy and Metaphysic, certified from the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary and from the University of Leuven, Belgium.
While pursuing his education, Gent Cakaj was also engaged as a consultant and analyst in political issues. Moreover, he has contributed chapters in books published by the University of Pittsburgh Press (2016) and soon by the prestigious Brill Publishers (2019).
In January 2018, Gent Cakaj joined the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania as a political advisor, responsible for European integration and foreign policy. At the same time, he served as the National Coordinator of the Republic of Albania for the Regional Economic Area for the Western Balkans.
In June 2018, Gent Cakaj was appointed Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, responsible for issues related to the process of European integration, and was also appointed as the National Coordinator for the “screening” process for the opening of the accession negotiations with the European Union.
